NJ Aid for Animals Celebrates It’s One Year Anniversary Of
Spaying and Neutering Over 400 Feral Cats for Qualified Caregivers

It all started March, 2008 in Camden City when the Big Rig came to S. Jersey and volunteer vets and dedicated animal lovers spayed and neutered cats for Camden residents.

In April and May, 2008, NJAFA had to rent a surgical center, but from June, 2008 to March 2, 2009 we were fortunate enough to partner with another organization with a mobile van and our compassionate vets, Dr. Rothberg and Dr. Campbell have not missed a month.

On Sunday, March 1,2009 we celebrated our one year spay/neuter efforts with over FOUR HUNDRED feral cats spayed or neutered by our “team”.

A huge undertaking once a month, the mobile van has to be readied with supplies, two vets and two vet techs and an average of six volunteers spend an entire day at the spay/neuter clinics. Total of 70 man hours per clinic.

All the ferals have to be trapped and kept humanely until the day of surgery then carefully kept warm and safe during recovery for a few days before being released again.
Our PEP program (Pet Enrichment Program) is like no others.

Because we will never have these cats in our possession again, we want to make sure when they are released they are in the best possible condition.

We believe every animal should be entitled to the best possible care while under our care. Transferred immediately after surgery to a warm soft blanket, our dedicated volunteers comb each and every cat for fleas and check for ear mites. Their nails are trimmed and they are wrapped up warm and snug in pillowcases while a nurse monitors their hearts in recovery.

NJAFA makes NO MONEY on our spay days. Our mission is to spay and neuter as many feral cats as we can and release them to loving caregivers.

THANKS TO OUR SPECIAL VETS AND OUR LOVING TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS
