What a wonderful success story. This couple lost their angel in 2007. They recently adopted Chester who was surrendered from Camden City, NJ to NJAFA. We could not have asked for a more perfect family.
Dear Kathy:
Chester is wonderful with our grandsons and little 2 year old granddaughter. She hugs him all the time and he loves it. Sometimes there is a little dispute over who the “dolly” belongs to but they work it out. đ
Chester is a happy little fellow and when he’s ready in the evening he loves to cuddle while we watch TV together. He is just a comical little guy and everyone loves him.
Our hearts ache to think what he may have gone through his first year of life.
We are convinced that at some point he was abused. If he does something wrong like drag a shoe out in to the hallway or something (which we should have put away in the first place), he reacts when we see him as if he will be hit, and he is hand shy at times if you reach out to him. We think he may have been treated roughly his first year. I realize some of this may be the independence of the Pug in him but think there is more to it.
We are very gentle with him, but firm and use treats to reward him. Tom really works well with him and he sits very quickly to get that special treat. He’s learning to lay down (on his terms) and give paw.
Some days I don’t know who is chasing who. Tom and he play all the time with his toys and Chester’s turned out to be great company for him. He’s eating well and sits under the table when we eat and doesn’t even beg for food. I think that the tough guy independence he showed is starting to wear down and he’s trusting us more and more.
He use to go off on his own but now always wants to be by one of us.
I think he’s finally realizing that he’s here to stay and this is his home.
Again Thank-you and enjoy your Christmas knowing that you will be rewarded for all the good you do for God’s little creatures.
Hugs
Tom, Linda and of course, Chester
” NOV 2007 – Updated Success Story for Chester the Puggle”.
Chester, the puggle surrendered in Camden City,NJ, with scarring on his back from a severe flea infestation, was adopted into his new home today in Pennsylvania.
It is always sad to give up an animal you have taken into your home to foster and nurture until they are ready to go to their forever homes. This picture was taken the day we drove Chester Bester to his new home.
A loving couple with no children or other animals (but tones of dog experience) and a big beautiful home with a fenced yard loved Chester the second they saw him!!! On his first day they have already spoiled him with tons of new toys, a new bed, collar and bowls.. He will really miss his wrestling buddy, Penny, but one of his humans is home ALL DAY and he will have a new buddy to wrestle with.
Another success story for an animal that someone didn’t want. So far this year, NJAFA has placed over 12 ADULT dogs into loving homes and 20 PUPPIES!
Thanks to ALL that inquired about Chester.. we had over 200 inquiries about him but know we picked the absolute perfect home for this little guy. He is already allowed on the couch, in the bed, wherever his heart will take him with this loving couple.

This is Chester!!! (A puggles?) who was surrendered by a family in Camden City, NJ because they could not take care of him any longer!!! He is soooooooooooo friendly and loving.
The family could not afford flea medicine for him so he has a terrible skin condition on his back where the fleas irritated his skin but he will be good as new in a short time. He is loving, non aggressive with food, other animals, people or cats. He is housebroken and can even sit!!!
