S. JERSEY TWO PITS CHAINED TO TREES SURRENDERED TO NJAFA

In April, 2008, a concerned neighbor called called Kathy McGuire about a female pit bull chained to a tree that had just given birth to puppies.  It was still cold at night and the puppies did not look well cared for as they were left outside 24/7.  The neighbor called New Jersey State SPCA as did Kathy McGuire.  Because the house was under surveillance by local and state law enforcement officials, Kathy McGuire was told to "back off" by the NJSPCA.  We still have the original message from the State SPCA agent.  This is a direct quote:

"We are definitely on this case and you need to stay away. The police have this property under survellience  because of other issues and if I were you would not get in the middle of it.

NJAFA should have "been on it and stayed on it" because all but one of the puppies died from cold temps and/or parvo and are buried in this person's yard.

Jada Missy
It is apparent that the agent whom we entrusted the safe keeping of these animals and who receives donations to do so did not do their job.

Fast forward, November, 2008 and same neighbor calls us again.  This time NJAFA bypassed the NJ SPCA and went directly to the individual's house with the two dogs chained up. (Yes undercover cars are still watching this house).

With the help of the neighbor, we got an introduction to the individual with the dogs and he indicated he would be breeding Missy but we could at least spay Jada and keep her while she recovered.

Before we could pick up Jada, she got loose from her chain and ended up at the local shelter impounded and sick.  The owner had no  money to get her out and to pay for her vet bill so NJAFA "sprung" Jada.

Once we had Jada spayed we then started negotiation for Missy to get spayed as well and for the owner to just surrender his two dogs chained to trees for their entire life.

He signed a surrender form and NJAFA took the dogs.

Jada and Missy were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy to be off their chains and in a warm bed.  They both were spayed immediately

Jada is a very friendly mother who was bred at 6 months and whose puppies all died.  She is currently being taught some manners after being chained up for l8 months of her life at Absolute Control Dog Training.

Missy, her only surviving pup, was just adopted to a very loving individual.  In fact, it's only been two weeks Missy has been in her new home and when she is seperated from her new "brother" cries for him..

As private citizens, you  have more rights than you know.  Moreover, sometimes a private citizen can get further in a bad situation by being conciliatory and kind than confrontational.  If you see something that you think is not right keep calling until you get action and do what YOU think is right
