ENTRIES FOR LUCKY DOG CONTEST

ENTRY 1 - Molly "Dollyqua" Reilly beats death again and again. Discovered in the rear view mirror on Kaighn Avenue in Camden, NJ in 1997, Molly is the luckiest dog in New Jersey. A beagle mix "jeweled" with ticks from ear to ear, and bloody from flea bites, Molly was nicked by a car crossing Kaighn Avenue as I was passing through Camden on my way home from work. I said to myself "You can't save them all" but there was Molly. She sat down, as if to wait, at the corner of Liberty and 7th Avenue, and though I sought her owner, she never looked back. The ticks were removed and with only her eye barely damaged, Molly recuperated from the pests and the car collision. A few years passed and then Molly was diagnosed with lymphoma but, as the luckiest dog EVER, Molly was treated by Veterinary Oncology in West Chester, PA and has been in remission for FIVE years! She has several rescue siblings, belly rubs and fish oil every day. With continued treatment, she'll be able to tell the tale from Liberty Street in Camden, NJ for many years to come. Beating death this many times - luckiest dog in NJ!

ENTRY 2 - My name is Miai and I think I am the luckiest dog ever. After my previous owner was in danger of being evicted because he had me in the apartment (what can I say - I am a little, friendly pit bull in a no pet apartment building!!) I was fortunate enough to get my picture on a cross posting email circuit which landed me in a house with some buddies to play with. They are cats but, you know a dog cannot be to picky about the company she keeps when there are no other places to go!! So now I have a nice, warm bed to sleep in, longs walks by the river, and two good meals every day. I have the wiggly-est butt ever when people stop to pet me. I will give them kisses if they like although not too many people actually ask for them. I respect that. I don't always know where their faces have been last either!!! So please, please, please pick me to be the luckiest dog ever!!!! Hmm -- I am starting to sound like a lab aren't I. Love, Miai!!!

ENTRY 3 - My name is Suki and I was found by a nice lady in Camden,NJ. I was given the most beautiful home and I get a home cooked meal every day. I also live with my three other sisters and two cats. I get groomed once a month and I look so pretty.
I am happy I don't have to live on the streets anymore.

ENTRY 4 - Dudley - aka Dudley Wudley - is the luckiest dog alive because as he was about to be euthanized (only because he was the biggest dog at the shelter) his angel intervened and begged her parents to give Dudley a chance at our house. He was found running the streets of Clayton in the snowiest winter January of 2000. Because he was afraid of the people trying to catch him, and because he has a most wonderful Mastiff bark, he was put in isolation at the shelter. He was never given the chance to be adopted, and was scheduled to be "put down" the day after I said yes to giving him a chance. He became the most loving member of our family, although he doesn't know he isn't a lap dog. As his angel brought other puppies home to be fostered, he would play with them at their level. I have never seen a big dog be able to gently play with the tiniest puppy, and the step it up to play with his own sisters. He was very nervous about the foster kitties though -- hiding behind me when I went to see the little urchins. He is the reason shelter dogs should always be considered for adoption in my mind.

ENTRY 5 - Lady is the luckiest dog ever - I found her eating trash out of garbage cans when I first moved into my new apartment. After walking up and down all the streets in the area, and no one claimed her or even knew her, I took her in. Then I found out she had some food aggression tendencies. But, I worked on that for a few months and now she is fine. She is a beautiful blonde lab with the loveliest brown eyes in the world. She is great with all children, cats, kittens, adults, and other dogs. She loves to play ball and go for long walks. Now she has many cousins to play with also. Lady may be the luckiest dog ever, but I am the luckiest human ever since she lives with me.

ENTRY 6 - We found our little dog wandering on a street. She was very shy and would not come to us. We took our sandwiches from our car and she followed us right into our backyard. We kept her and gave her a good home and now l3 years later she is still the love of our lives.

ENTRY 7 - Poor little boy. A tiny bichon which we didn't even know were supposed to be white was covered in motor oil and leash wrapped around a chair in a deserted house. He was very matted and covered in grease and thin. We took him immediately and cleaned him up and gave him a good home. He became ill and we tried everything we could to keep him alive after five years of a good life. He was a lucky dog when we rescued him for sure

ENTRY 8 - THE LUCKIEST DOG is Suzy. She is a Mastiff who was wandering the streets of our town for about six months getting skinnier and skinnier. Our local animal control could not catch her but we were able to catch her in a large dog trap. Then we found a great home for her with people who rescue Mastiffs and now she is living in her own house. The people are very rich and own a house right next to theirs where the mastiffs live and get to come and go from their own entryway into the humans house. What a lucky girl Suzy is. From roaming the streets to owning her own home!!

ENTRY 9 - My name is Kobi and I am the luckiest dog ever. I was running down the side of 676 on a cold winter Sunday. The cars were passing by so fast I was scared. Someone saw me and made a quick turn on Collings Ave. in order to get back up on 676 to find me. By that time I had taken the Morgan St. exit just to get away from all those cars!!! But, this person knew the only place I could get off the highway was Morgan St. and took that exit to find me at the corner of Broadway and Morgan. I was so happy to see a friendly face I jumped right in her car -- wet feet and all!! Then when we got to her house, I got a nice warm bath and a new family to love and kiss me. Once all the worms were out of me and I started eating proper dog food I looked beautiful. Now I have a brother and three cat sisters, and a wonderful family. I think that makes me the luckiest dog. Thanks for asking.
